COLOR SCAVENGER HUNT FOR KIDS

The best part about this simple color scavenger hunt is that it’s so versatile. You can pretty much use it anywhere that you’ll be enjoying outdoors. Make one for a trip to the park, for a weekend camping trip, or even for playing in your own backyard. Using a paper lunch sack is also perfect because kids have a place to store all of their new treasures.

Also, you can return the items you found back to nature and play all over again as many times as you’d like.

Supplies:

  •  white paper lunch bag
  • Markers

Directions:

  1. Write “Color Scavenger Hunt” at the top of your white paper lunch bag.
  2. Choose the colors you want the children to hunt for and use your colored markers to scribble small squares onto the front of the bag of each color.
  3. Pass out the bags to the children and let them have fun finding all of the colors on the bag. When they find an item that matches one of the colors, place it in the bag. When everyone is finished, sit in a circle and have a fun time having a show and tell about all of the items everyone found.

A Memory Game on the Move

How to Setup:

On index cards, write down various sequences of at least five numbers (such as 1, 2, 7, 4, 9). Gather nine numbered cones (see instructions for ours, below) or simply use a marker to number milk cartons or other boxes. Place the cones in an open area, spacing them several feet apart.

The Challenge:

Two players stand at a designated starting line. One is the caller and the other is the runner. The caller draws a card from the deck and announces the first number in the sequence. The runner runs to that numbered cone, tags it, then runs back to the starting line. The caller then yells out the first two numbers on the card, and the runner must tag both cones, in order, and return. Play continues in this manner, with the runner memorizing the sequence and tagging cones, until all the numbers have been called out. Then the caller and runner swap places and continue with a new card from the deck.

Make Your Own Big Bright Cone Labels:

We numbered our cones using pre-cut number stickers mounted on sheets of duct tape. Both are available at craft stores.
